An electrical field detector : Find electrical wires in the walls with this sensitive circuit. Use the Variable Capacitor to adjust sensitivity. An adjustable audio generator, Use the Variable Capacitor to tune. A Marconi experiment : See how it all started to transmit wireless comunication.
JPG The link to print off the owner's manuals for the in 1 Electronic Projects Lab Kit worked perfectly. I am trying to buy some extra wire to use with this kit, for a friend and don't know what to look for! Can anyone help me with this? Thank you. They used to supply stranded hook-up wire with the ends soldered to stop them fraying. If you have a soldering iron you can cut strip and solder your own. I haven't tried them and they might slip out of the spring terminals a little more easily than the original wires. They sold consumer electronics, of course, but they also sold parts and kits.
In addition to specific kits, they always had some versions of a universal kit where lots of components were mounted on a board and you could easily connect and disconnect them to build different things.
This was a particularly fancy model since it has a nice looking front panel with a few knobs and displays. The book shows you how to make the different projects ranging from metronomes to rain detectors. The projects really fell into several categories.
There were practical circuits like radio receivers, test equipment, and transmitters. One selling point of these kits is they are solderless. Each component attaches to a spring. You bend the spring which leaves an opening between the coils.
Stick a wire in the opening and release the spring to make a connection. Later, you can bend the spring again and pull the wire out.
Super simple and easy to duplicate if you wanted to make your own. Each spring has a number and the projects call out which numbered terminals connect together. It shows you a pictorial of the device and a numbered netlist, at least, at first. Although the educational circuits are useful, the short write-ups that accompany them ought to be longer to better explain the operation to neophytes.
The old device had bad LEDs, so [RetroSpector78] did a repair and you get to see the insides of the device. Lots of springs and wires with a few PC boards for the ICs and other components. The company that makes them — and other similar labs — appears to be Maxitronix. We often refer to these kits as analogous to FPGAs — a bunch of uncommitted components you can wire up to make different things. The spring terminals are sort of a macro version of a common breadboard.
That exact kit is what started my down this dark path years ago. It still has a home with me for the nostalgia. One night Mom and Dad sent me to my bedroom as punishment, and I was really pissed, so I brought out my in-one electronics kit and built a VHF oscillator and tuned it to the TV channel I could hear them watching downstairs.Enter your mobile number or email address below and we'll send you a link to download the free Kindle App.

As something that's good for beginners and experienced tinkerers alike, I just wanted to let you all know that I scanned the manual for the in-1 kit from Radio Shack in the early s and put it together in a PDF file.
After doing several Google searches I could never find it online and decided to do it myself. Hopefully this will be useful to someone even if I can't make use of it for the time being. Not sure what he changed, but I did find it here, looks like the same link but this one works. Awesome scan! Is this under copyright law still? Or has it been long enough to enter the public domain?

I actually learned a lot with this kit and have introduced each of my three sons to the kits as they became the right age. Here are the three XXX-in-1 kits I now own: in-1 kit - item number - no date to be found, in-1 kit - item number - manual is copyrightand in-1 kit - item - manual is copyright Below these kits are some individual project kits.
The last picture is of the Integrated Circuit from the in-1 kit. Looks like something out of the stone age and yet it was state of the art at the time. Lots of folks email asking if I could possibly make a copy of the manual for the in-1 kit shown here. In or so a high school teacher from Texas emailed me saying he received five copies of the kit for use in his classroom but none had the manual.
I made a page-by-page photocopy of my manual, made five double-sided copies from this copy and mailed them all to him. I also enclosed the kit from my personal collection, shown here, along with its original manual so he would have six working kits. So sorry, I no longer have the manual to make you a copy. Sam Update: A site visitor found a great copy of the manual on the web for us in-1 Manual pdf. Thanks Robert L.

The base is clear plexiglas and there are instructions for ten projects.
The kit has no clue to date or manufacturer. And another Electronic Project Kit, this one from Lionel the train folks. This kit's manual is dated and it appears to be called the Mark II Kit. Contact me: Sam Cancilla, sam samstoybox. See my eBay Store Ad for current listings.
